During my freshmen year at Donelson Christian Academy I have
had many memories, and I have learned and experienced many different things. I
have many amazing memories from this school year. I cannot just choose one
memory so I will tell you about a couple of them. Being on the soccer team this
year was an amazing memory. The whole season was very fantastic. We were not
very good, at all, but we had so much fun and grew so close together as a team.
Joining the soccer team really helped me come into high school comfortably
because right off the bat I was becoming friends with upperclassmen. Going to FCA camp and being on the basketball
team was also very fun. FCA camp challenges how strong you really are as an
athlete and a Christian. Being on the basketball team also helped me come into
high school already knowing a lot of the upperclassmen and made it a lot more
comfortable to be in high school. The last memories I have are when the
softball team went to Destin, Florida for our spring break trip. Just being on
the softball team in general is such a fun time, and you build so many
friendships. We always ride the bus with the baseball team and I made friends
with a lot of people I would probably never have talked to if it wasn’t for
being on the softball team. On the way back from Zion Christian Academy I was
sitting with my friends in the back of the bus and Brett Wolfe and I hid Jamo
Manning’s phone on the bars on the bus ceiling. Jamo finally realized he didn’t
have his phone so he kept looking for it. Brett and I both kept hinting at him
to look up and Jamo looked up and right at his phone a few times and still didn’t
see it. Finally Brett gave him his phone and Jamo started making this monkey
face at me and making these really weird noises. I laughed for a good 10
minutes straight because it was so funny. That was a good memory because I don’t
think I’ve ever laughed so hard in my life. I learned many things at the academy this
year. The most important thing I learned was you have to work hard and care
about your grades or you will not succeed. Advice I would give to the upcoming freshmen
for next year would have to be don’t chew gum in Mrs. Crittenden’s class, read
ALL of the English books Mrs. Studer gives to you, and work hard in weight
training or it’s a “minus five”. Those are all just funny advices but
seriously, get involved. Play sports, be in drama, join choir, do something;
the year is a whole lot better if you just get involved in something. It’s a
major part of the high school experience. Next, do your work. Freshmen year is
such an easy year if you just do your work. Take the time to do it because the
work does matter and zeros on homework do make a difference. Finally, be
yourself. Don’t let strangers or friends try to change who you are in order to
make you “cool”. Originals are a lot cooler than copies. Freshmen year is a
great time and you will have so many memories coming out of it.
Be involved.
